Membership

Only members in good standing and classified as FULL, ASSOCIATE or TEMPORARY members of the OPFA may practise professional forestry in Ontario.  This practice must also be in accordance with any Terms, Conditions or Limitations (TCLs) registered on their certificates of registration (Practice Limitations).   

The OPFA has 9 membership categories which are summarized below.  More detail on the categories can be found on the Membership Categories  webpage.

Practising Members:

  1. Full - Licenced to practise professional forestry in Ontario in any areas in which they are competent, and in accordance with any Terms, Conditions and Limitations.

  2. Associate - May only practice in the area(s) of professional forestry and in the geographic area as defined in their Scope of Practice in the individual’s certificate of registration (registered as TCLs).

  3. Temporary – Has received a temporary permit from the Association to practise specific aspects of forestry in Ontario for a limited period of time.

Non-Practising Members:

  1. Life - Not allowed to practise professional forestry.

  2. Honourary - Not allowed to practise professional forestry.

  3. Provisional - Not allowed to practise professional forestry, except under the direct supervision of a Full or Associate member (with an appropriate Scope of Practice).

  4. Student - Not allowed to practise professional forestry.

  5. Inactive - Not allowed to practise professional forestry.

  6. Non-Resident - Not allowed to practise professional forestry in Ontario.  Non-Resident members must apply for Full membership or a Temporary permit from the Association before being licenced to practise in Ontario.
